A Gathering of Days was written by Joan W. Blos.

This book is a diary of a young girl named Catherine Hall. She is 13 years old and she lives in New-Hampshire in the 1830's. In this book she tells about her struggles, her joys, everything in her life basically. The diary is one year in her life, but she tells about her past a lot. She tells about how her mother died when she was younger, about how her best friend Cassie died, about how her father went into town just to get some money but ended up coming back with a future wife. The book talks a lot about a so called "phatom" also, but if I go into anymore detail, I might ruin it for you.

This book takes place in the early 1830's. This means that there was no electricity, cars,... etc. This story actually took place not too long after our country came into existance. The story really paints a good picture about how life was back then and how much it hasd changed since then.

I highly recomend reading this book if you enjoy stories about the past.
